In the world of textiles, technologies come and go. The technique for pre-dyeing both warps and wefts prior to weaving patterns to make rare Isesaki meisen fabrics known as heiyo kasuri “double ikat” is now lost. Although a briefly recreated in 2016, just long enough for one example to be included in the V&A Museum collection and shown in their Kimono exhibition this coming February, the implements needed to make heiyo kasuri have all since been lost.
